The Future of Walking
TFW footwear (patent pending) directly filters pollution from the air at the ground level through the soles of your shoes. Combining a fashion statement with positive-activism - We see TFW shoe on millions world-wide who care about their environment.
My Role
I was responsible for design and prototyping. Our team of 5 inventors were a collective of designers, engineers, artists and chemists. We met at Makerversity’s hack marathon workshop ‘Tool for change’.

Mission
With every step taken, a one-way valve lets in polluted air which is then pushed out through the layers of filters as you step.
TFW uses parametric design and additive manufacturing to tailor the shoe to an individual users weight and shoe size - providing a comfortable walk whilst maximising the air filtered on average per step/shoe.

TFW disrupts three industries in one product:
– indoor air purifiers
– personal air quality monitoring
– footwear

Technology
TFW is using 3D capture technology and a generative design process.
An algorithmic thinking process creates the functional form structure.

Collective Design Process
We developed the most efficient way to work with different background professions to reach the goal.
A Rapid prototyping helped the team communication better and prove the concept immediately.
