SORA
is a smart home device. An intelligent air monitor that provides customised actionable solutions to improve indoor air quality.
My role
I co-founded SORA with Yuki Machida who managed the electronics and server integration. I was responsible for user research, market analysis, hardware design, UX and UI design, branding, enclosure prototyping, finance and business modelling.
System Overview
As ‘home consultants’, the SORA app surveys each user before air quality measurement begins. We developed ‘action cards’ that are relevant to different lifestyle routines, home environments and sensitivities, such as asthma or allergies. The more questions we ask, the more responses we get, and the better our ‘action cards’ and ‘home consultancy’ will become. SORA understands that users are unique, and we tailor our recommendations accordingly.

System Deep Dive
A survey capture the user's sensitivity, local air quality, routines (such as cooking or cleaning times), family members’ sensitivities, house size, room size, list of products that includes harmful chemicals. SORA has a decision tree to match users to useful solutions. This algorithm requires the user's participation such as logging their activity especially when the pollution level is high. This helps the system generate questions to match with solutions.

Real-time Data
